Iceland - a visual saga

September 17 - October 22, 2010

Reception September 17th 6-8pm

What does a zookeeper, musician, education professor and an artist have in common? They all traveled with WLC Art Professor Kristin Gjerdset to the magical isle of Iceland in May 2009 and have something creative to say about it. Come see this mix of paintings, photos, sculptures, drawings and mixed media as eclectic as the island itself. A reception celebrating their travels and art will take place on Friday September 17 from 6-8 pm. Stop in during this time to meet the artists and sample a potluck of food, including volcano and ice sheet cakes! The event is free and open to the public. p.s. if you can't make the reception, the exhibition will be on display until October 22. Hours: M-Sat, 9-9 and Sun, 1-9.

The Nature of Three: The Landscapes of Diane Bywaters, Kristin Gjerdset and Laura Ibbotson

Connected by a vision of landscape and the relationship of faculty/mentor, artists Diane Bywaters, Kristin Gjerdset and Laura Ibbotson will come together to present paintings and drawings created while artists in residence and traveling abroad, each reflecting a very personal, introspective response to the environment. Bywaters shows the majestic, panoramic and powerful expanse of land. Gjerdset's focus is the active, vibrant personality and metaphorical possibilities of trees while Ibbotson reacts with sensitivity to the order and softness of a space. The exhibit will reveal how their relationships have impacted and informed each others' work.

The exhibit is sure to be diverse, colorful, and spiritually renewing, speaking to the value of mentoring, the landscape and the gift of art making.
